Participants of LINOLEUM international animation festival and The Stolen Princess cartoon go to Portugal

On November 12 in Espinho, Portugal  CINANIMA animation festival starts, which will feature a selection of contemporary Ukrainian animation and host a screening of The Stolen Princess cartoon.

In November Ukrainian animation will be showcased in Espinho, Portugal where CINANIMA, international festival of animated films, is scheduled for November 12-18. The festival will feature a program of contemporary Ukrainian animation from this year’s LINOLEUM festival. These are eight original and stylistically different Ukrainian films created during the last five years, which already gained recognition in their home country:

- The Shop of SongBirds, dir. by Anatoliy Lavrenishyn, 2014;

- The Gum, dir. by Olga Makarchuk, 2013;

- Dakha Brakha – Carpathian Rap, dir. by Sashko Danylenko, 2013;

- Fish-tailed Girl, dir. by Sergiy Melnychenko, 2013;

- Mishka Vinoven, dir. by Oleksandr Koreshkov and Dmytro Lisenbart, 2014;

- The End, dir. by Nikita Lyskov, 2016;

- Zapaska – Zapytaisya, dir. by Oleg Scherba, 2017;

-  Eluvium – Regenerative Being, dir. by Stas Santimov, 2017.

The main competition of international Portuguese festival will include Prychinna: The Story of Love, participant of LINOLEUM 2018 Ukrainian program and Grand Prix winner at Open Night Ukrainian festival.

Besides, on November 18 INTERNATIONAL GRAND PANORAMA will hold an out-of-competition screening of The Stolen Princess, Ukrainian animated film with the biggest box office. The cartoon will be presented by its director Oleg Malamuzh.

LINOLEUM (deriving from English word line and Latin oleum meaning “oil”) is an international festival of topical animation and media arts. This is the biggest screening of arthouse animation in Ukraine.  Except international and national competitions, the festival consists of a series of workshops and lectures from industry professionals, screenings of experimental animation and video arts, theme out-of-competition screenings, and children’s program.
